Father Rocco Charles D'Angelo

Ordained: 1956

Resigned: 1993

Dead: 2005

  • St. Mark's Church (Boynton Beach, FL)
  • St. Charles Borromeo (Port Charlotte, FL)
  • St. Peter Claver (Tampa, FL)
  • Good Shepherd (Tampa, FL)

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Rocco Charles D'Angelo:

Fr. Rocco Charles D'Angelo was ordained in 1956. D'Angelo was accused of sexually abusing 5 former altar boys, ages 9-15, at St. Mark's Church in Boynton Beach, Florida in the 1960s and 1970s.

According to media reports, the Archdiocese of Miami knew that D'Angelo had molested at least 4-5 boys in 1966-1967. The boys and their parents confronted the church, in which they promised he will never work with kids again.

However, D'Angelo went for therapy and was sent to St. Luke Institute near Baltimore in 1967 and then went on to new assignments in the St. Petersburg Diocese. Numerous suits were filed in Miami and Tampa and several of them were settled, but others were dismissed due to statute of limitations. According to the FL Attorney General's report, D'Angelo "retired" in 1994 after an accusation.

In 1996, four more men sued the diocese, saying D'Angelo molested them at St. Peter Claver and Good Shepherd parishes in Tampa, Florida.

One man who settled in 1998 sued again in 2002, alleging fraud on the part of the Archdiocese and that was settled in 2009.

Records show that D'Angelo admitted to molesting altar boys decades prior to when the allegations surfaced.

D'Angelo died in 2005.
