Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Gregory Sheridan:
Monsignor Gregory Sierra Sheridan, a native of Spain was ordained a priest of the Augustinian Recollect religious order in 1935, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of San Diego. Before coming to San Diego as a diocesan priest in 1948, he served at Christ the King in Monahans, Texas. He worked in various New York parishes including South Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Orchard Park and Sheridan.
According to media reports, in January 2006, a woman accused Monsignor Sheridan of sexually abusing her in 1969 when she was eight years old. In March 2007, his name was included in the Diocese of San Diego's list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. In October 2010, as part of a settlement with survivors of clergy sexual abuse, the Diocese of San Diego released his personnel file.
In May 2019, two more women came forward alleging that Monsignor Sheridan sexual abused them as young girls over 30 years earlier, at St. Jude's Shrine of the West in Southcrest. The three women filed a suit against the diocese alleging that Sheridan abused them all as young girls in the 1960's. A total of four alleged victims have come forward accusing Monsignor Sheridan of child sexual abuse.
Monsignor Sheridan retired in 1983, and returned to Spain with letter of recommendation to the Spanish diocese. He died there in February 1991.
