Sarasota County Doctor Thomas Lohstreter Arrested on Multiple Counts of Sexual Battery

On May 5, 2020, Sarasota County doctor, Thomas Lohstreter, was arrested on multiple charges involving unlawful sexual abuse of female patients.  Dr. Lohstreter has been under investigation since December 2019 since the first of a series of his patients began reporting sexual assaults to law enforcement. Since that first report, at least six other patients have made similar reports.

Thomas Lohstreter, age 70, is charged with three counts of sexual assault, one count of lewd or lascivious molestation upon an elderly disabled person and one count of battery.  The incidents are alleged to have occurred in patient rooms at the doctor's place of employment, South County Medical Center (MCR Health) in Englewood, Florida.  According to law enforcement, Dr. Lohstreter admitted to at least one improper touching of a female patient during an interview.  Dr. Lohstreter. According to public records, Lohstreter was previously licensed to practice medicine in Minnesota and Georgia.  He was temporarily suspended by the American Board of Family Practice in 2013 for improper prescribing practices in Minnesota.

In addition to the pending criminal case, the Florida Department of Health has a pending administrative action against Dr. Lohstreter seeking to revoke his license.  Separate from these matters, Horowitz Law intends to file multiple civil lawsuits against Dr. Lohstreter.

Horowitz Law commends the alleged victims for their courage in reporting these incidents to law enforcement.  Attorney Adam Horowitz said, "Doctors occupy a unique position of trust in our society. Vulnerable patients seeking medical treatment should never be subjected to sexual assault.  This kind of abuse is a betrayal of trust at the highest level."

Horowitz Law represents alledged victims of Dr. Thomas Lohstreter and is evaluating additional civil lawsuits against Dr. Thomas Lohstreter and his medical practice for sexual assault on female patients.  If you or someone you know has been subjected to sexual misconduct by Thomas Lohstreter, please call Horowitz Law at 1-888-283-9922 or send an e-mail to adam@adamhorowitzlaw.com
