Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Msgr. Michael Matusak:

Msgr. Michael Matusak was ordained a priest in 1975, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Greensburg. According to media reports, after credible allegations of sexual abuse dating back 20 years were brought to the attention of the Diocese of Greensburg in August 2018, Monsignor Matusak was removed from ministry until the completion of a police investigation. At the time of his removal, the Diocese stated publicly that the investigation is now in the hands of law enforcement, and that Matusak would remain on leave at least until that investigation is complete.

According to media reports, the allegation against Matusak stemmed from his time at St. Pius X (1997-2008). Following the release of a statewide grand jury report in August, a woman who had been a parishioner at St. Pius X emailed the diocese to say that Matusak molested her when she was a teenager.  The Diocese's internal investigation concluding with a finding that the allegation was credible, meaning that Matusak should have been permanently removed from ministry, stripped of his faculties, and reported to the Vatican for laicization proceedings under the 2002 Dallas Charter adopted by America's bishops.

In March 2019, Horowitz Law reported a second allegation to the Diocese of Greensburg.  The Diocese never disclosed this second allegation to the general public, instead announcing in June 2019 that Matusak was retiring (voluntarily) due to his age.  When confronted by a reporter about its coverup of the second allegation, the Diocese's spokesman admitted that the Diocese knew of the second allegation but saw no reason to inform the public about it.  For more information, click here.

In addition to his parish assignments, Matusak was the Dean of Deanery 5 at the time of his removal. The Diocese of Greensburg says that Matusak would be residing in a retirement home for priests.

Matusak later died at the retirement home in October 2019.
