Ms. Eve Spangler Minter (Teacher) – Diocese of Erie

Ms. Eve Spangler Minter

Diocese of Erie

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Ms. Eve Spangler Minter:

According to media reports, the Diocese of Erie fired Ms. Eve Spangler Minter from the all-boys Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, Pennsylvania, during the 2002-2003 school year after she allegedly kissed a minor student. She is listed on the Diocese of Erie's list of credibly accused laypersons who are forbidden from working with minors in the Diocese of Erie, presumably because of that incident.

At the time of her inclusion on the Diocese of Erie's public disclosure list, Minter was teaching music at Brookland and Elko middle schools in Virginia. When her name was included on the list, Henrico County Public Schools immediately put Minter on administrative leave.

According to media reports, Minter and her attorneys have considered suing the Diocese of Erie for defamation, claiming that the child initiated the kiss and she self-reported the incident at the time it occurred.  The Diocese of Erie responded by stating that, during its internal investigation of the incident, Minter later "admitted to initiating the kiss and falsely reporting the events when it did not go as planned."  No defamation suit has been filed, and Ms. Minter has never been charged criminally for any type of sexual abuse.

According to media reports, in April 2019, Minter was included in the Diocese of Erie list of lay people associated with the church who have been credibly accused of actions that, in the diocese's judgment, disqualify that person from working with children. These actions range from corruption of minors to direct physical sexual abuse or sexual assault of minors.

Minter is currently living in Henrico, Virginia, according to the Diocese of Erie.  Her current status with the Henrico County Public Schools (or any other school district) is unknown.
