Father James Benedetto was ordained to the priesthood in 1970. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career in the the Archdiocese of Newark. According to media reports, in February 2019, the Archdiocese of Newark released a list of 63 priests “credibly accused” of child sex abuse. One of the names listed was that of Father Vincent Bonelli.

The only specifics included were the parishes and schools Father Benedetto worked in and the number of victims known to the Archdiocese. He was listed as having one credible accusation of sexual abuse. No details were provided about the age/gender of the victim or Benedetto’s assignment at the time of the abuse.
