Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegation against Father Joseph Bosetti:

Fr. Joseph Bosetti was ordained a priest in 1918 and served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Denver. He ascended the ranks of the Archdiocese and became its Vicar General.  According to the October 2019 Colorado Attorney General’s report of a special investigation into the three Catholic dioceses of Colorado and their handling of sexual abuse allegations, he was publicly identified as an accused child molester.  According to the documents reviewed by the AG’s investigator, Bosetti was accused of engaging a 16 year old boy in oral sex at least 10 times over a 4- to 5-month period from 1949 to 1950 after giving the alleged victim money and other gifts.  Some of the incidents reportedly occurred in the Archdiocese of Denver’s Chancery offices. The alleged victim reported his abuse in May 2002.  The Archdiocese did not investigate the abuse incident or report it to law enforcement.

According to the Report, Bosetti was the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Denver and the director of the Cathedral Boys’ Choir.  As Chancellor, he would have had access to all of the personnel files of all priests in the Archdiocese, including his own.  Indeed, the Report indicates that “his file contained no evidence of [the] ‘clear and direct report of sexual abuse.’  We found this allegation documented in a different file, not Bosetti’s, therefore, we are not confident that there was no other abuse by Bosetti or that the Denver Archdiocese did not know about it before Bosetti abused” this victim.

Bosetti died in 1954.
