Summary of Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Thomas Patrick English:
Monsignor Thomas Patrick English, an Irish native, was ordained a priest in 1927, who served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, in 2003, he was named in a lawsuit alleging that he sexually abused a minor child in 1969 in a parish in Pomona, Los Angeles. After an internal investigation, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles determined the allegations to be unfounded, but the lawsuit remained active, which means a therapist concluded they were credible. The finding by a therapist is required before a lawsuit can be filed.
Msgr. English retired in 1975 and died later that same year.
In 2018, Msgr. English’s name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.
