Summary of Abuse Allegations against Sister Ann Peterson:

Sr. Ann Peterson served as a member of the Ursuline order for 59 years. She started her career in ministry serving at Saint Joseph School in Middletown, New York. She rose to multiple leadership positions as a principal, a board member at several institutions, and a trustee with the Ursuline Sisters in Westchester.

According to media reports, in December 2019, Peterson was accused in a lawsuit filed under New York’s Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl for more than five years, beginning in 1963, while serving at Saint Joseph’s School in Middletown, New York. The lawsuit accused Peterson of asking the girl to stay after school and then abusing her by kissing her and putting her hands underneath the child’s clothing. It stated that the alleged victims continue to feel “traumatized, ashamed, embarrassed and humiliated.”

Peterson denied the allegation and stepped down from ministry, pending the outcome of the investigation.
