Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Joseph Dondero:
Fr. Joseph Dondero was ordained a priest in 1946, and served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, San Francisco and the Diocese of San Jose. According to media reports, in 2002, the Diocese of San Jose received a report that Fr. Dondero sexually abused a child at St. Joseph Parish in the 1960s. His name was included in the Diocese of San Jose’s list of clergy with credible allegations of sexual abuse of children. It noted that in 1973, the priest was transferred to St. Thomas Canterbury in Campbell, CA. In 1980, he moved to Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, CA, where he died in 1997. He is also listed on the Jesuits West Province list in 2018. It notes sexual abuse of a minor 1961-65, reported in 2003 and 2005.
