Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Louis Paturzo:
Fr. Louis Paturzo was ordained a priest in 1973, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Norwich. He was best known for his work with troubled youths in the city. According to media reports, in 2002, he was removed from ministry after allegations surfaced that he fondled at least two adolescent boys in the early 1970s. Both incidents are believed to have occurred while Paturzo was serving as a deacon, before his ordination as a Roman Catholic priest.
One boy’s parents reported the abuse to police in 1993. An investigation was launched, but the police couldn’t prove anything. Paturzo was sent for a psychological evaluation and treatment and then was reassigned. In 2002, he was removed from ministry without privileges.
In 2005, Paturzo was named in a settlement between the archdiocese and 43 plaintiffs involving 14 priests. He was sued in 2008, in addition to being laicized.
In 2019, Paturzo’s name was included on the Diocese of Norwich list with credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor. His name was also included on the Archdiocese of Hartford list.
