Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Anthony Lorento:

Fr. Anthony Lorento was a priest of the Pallottine Order and worked in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  In 2002, Fr. Lorento was listed on the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of Minors list. In April 2023, Maryland’s Attorney General released a report alleging 156 Catholic clergy members sexually abused at least 600 children over six decades. The report lists the names of the abusers, including Father Anthony Lorento.

According to the Attorney General’s report, in 1994, a woman reported to the Archdiocese of Baltimore that Fr. Lorento made inappropriate advances in 1981 by holding her tightly and trying to kiss her when she was 16 at St. Leo the Great in Baltimore. The incident was reported to the Pallottines, but no action occurred. The accusation was not reported to the parish nor the public until 2002 when listed as credibly accused.

In 2017, a man reported that Fr. Lorento sexually abused him in 1980 when he was 12 years old. The victim was an altar boy and reported that after mass one day, Lorento let him drink wine, then approached him in the room where the altar boys dressed. He claimed Fr. Lorento rubbed his penis through the outside of the victim’s clothes and then orally raped the victim. Lorento told the victim that “we can do this anytime” but “don’t tell anyone.” The victim stated he never saw Lorento again because he was scared. In 2018, the archdiocese reached a settlement with the victim.

It is reported that Lorento left the priesthood in 1998.
