Anthony Coleman, Nurse at Bayonet Point Hospital, Arrested for Sexual Battery: Advocating for Victims’ Rights

We are deeply troubled by the recent arrest of Anthony Coleman, a charge nurse at Bayonet Point Hospital in Pasco County, Florida. On May 21, 2025, Coleman was arrested after a female hospital patient reported that Coleman committed sexual battery while she was incapacitated during treatment over the course of two days. Coleman, age 30, is facing charges for felony sexual battery, indecent exposure and battery. The abuse reportedly included digital penetration of the vagina and anus during the second incident. This alarming incident not only underscores the vulnerability of patients in healthcare settings but also raises critical questions about the responsibilities of medical institutions to protect those in their care.

According to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, the alleged victim reported that Coleman forced himself on her while she was unable to defend herself during the evenings of May 15 and May 16, 2025. Coleman had reportedly entered the room to administer medicine to the patient. During the first night, it is allegedly Coleman repeatedly massaged her bare breasts and aggressively pinched her nipples. He also is accused of kissing her neck. During the second night, the victim reported to law enforcement that she woke up to Coleman digitally penetrating her vagina and later exposed his genitals and placed her hand on his penis. Coleman only stopped when the victim yet, "Get out, get out now."

The patient told law enforcement she did not give Coleman permission to touch her sexual organs. This egregious violation of trust is not merely a criminal act; it represents a profound betrayal of the duty of care that healthcare professionals owe to their patients. Hospitals are meant to be sanctuaries for healing, and when they fail to provide a secure environment, they undermine their core mission. Coleman has been licensed in Florida since 2021.

The allegations against Coleman are severe, as he faces felony charges of sexual battery. Following the incident, Bayonet Point Hospital stated that it is cooperating with law enforcement and conducting its own internal review. Coleman's employment has reportedly been terminated. However, it is crucial to examine what systemic failures may have allowed this situation to occur. Did the hospital have adequate protocols in place to monitor staff behavior? Were there sufficient background checks and training programs to ensure that employees understand the boundaries of patient care? These are essential questions that must be addressed to prevent future incidents of abuse. There is not yet a pending civil lawsuit.
