Broward Anesthesiologist David Rerko Surrenders License After His Arrest For Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Images
David Rerko Broward Doctor

A Broward County anesthesiologist, David Rerko, surrendered his license to practice medicine in Florida, which was accepted and adjudged as a discipline on April 30, 2025, by the Florida Board of Medicine. This Final Order to relinquish his license was made to avoid disciplinary action brought by the Florida Department of Health after Rerko's arrest in September of 2024 by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Rerko had been licensed to practice medicine in Florida since 2006 and worked as an anesthesiologist at Broward Health North at the time of his arrest. Rerko is also licensed to practice in Mississippi.

In a Court filing in his criminal case on March 16, 2026, Rerko admitted to the offense and explained that his crime was committed in an unsophisticated manner and was an isolated incident for which he showed remorse. Rerko made these statements in connection with seeking a downward departure from the lowest permissible sentence.

Arrest Details for David Rerko

According to arrest documents, Rerko worked as an anesthesiologist with Broward Health North and is also affiliated with Broward Health Medical Center and other hospitals throughout Florida. He's reportedly worked in medicine for 21 years and has a Mississippi State Board of Medicine license.

On September 12, 2024, David Rerko was arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s Office and charged with 10 counts of depiction of child sexual conduct and one count of gathering child pornography on a computer. Rerko, 62, was accused of possessing over 200 files of child sex abuse material, to which he pleaded not guilty and was under house arrest since posting a $110,000 bond on Sept. 16.

The Investigation of David Rerko

According to media reports, in August of 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a report from Yahoo Inc. that one of their subscribers, David Rerko, violated the company's terms of use by "uploading videos and images of child pornography." Yahoo provided the material to the NCMEC, sending a CyberTip to the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force because Rerko's IP addresses geolocated him to Pompano Beach.

Yahoo reported that Rerko's account had uploaded 122 files of child pornography and 117 files of child erotica. Based on the information reviewed, it appeared that he had allegedly "emailed himself some of the same images multiple times" between March 2017 and August 2024 when Yahoo suspended Rerko's account.

On September 4, 2024, the Broward County Sheriff's Office received the contents of Rerko's account, where they discovered many of the reported files in the CyberTip. According to arrest documents, the videos and images showed young girls between 8 and 13 years old from 2017-2024. It is unknown at this time what the relationship was between him and the children.

Additionally, all the emails had his signature, "David Rerko, MD," printed at the bottom and showed that they were sent from an iPhone. After reviewing and confirming the account's ownership, BSO pulled Rerko over during a traffic stop along North Federal Highway in Pompano Beach. Upon serving a search warrant, Rerko was escorted to a BSO-issued vehicle to be interviewed.

During a search of his home, BSO took in numerous electronic and storage devices as evidence. Forensic examiners looked at Rerko's phone, and he reportedly refused to provide the password, as stated in the arrest documents. BSO noted that he may face additional charges pending the forensics investigation.

According to arrest documents, a records check revealed that Rerko was arrested for driving under the influence in January 1983 by Daytona Beach Police and had no other criminal history before his 2024 arrest. BSO also noted that he allegedly planned to travel to Germany for a week in late September.

When patients finally decide on one, they hope to feel better over time and not be violated by the very person with whom we place our trust. Healthcare providers hold a position of power in the physician-patient relationship.
