On September 18, 2025, 18, 2025, the Florida Department of Health, Board of Massage Therapy, filed an administrative complaint against massage therapist Marco Colmenares in Broward County. The complaint was filed after a report was made alleging sexual misconduct during a massage Colmenares performed while working at MassageLuxe in Coral Springs, FL. Colmenares obtained his massage therapist license in Florida in May 2019. According to his LinkedIn profile, Colmenares also worked at Anja Healing Studios in Deerfield Beach.
According to the complaint, on June 24, 2022, a woman received a massage at MassageLuxe at the Coral Springs location, performed by Colmenares. During the massage, while the client was laying face-up, Colmenares allegedly rubbed between the client's legs and over her vagina. The client froze, and Colmenares continued touching the client's vagina, including the labia. The woman asked Colmenares what he was doing and he immediately moved his hand away. He continued the massage, but the client ended it by getting up.
When clients schedule a massage, they do so to relax and relieve stress. They trust that licensed massage therapists are properly vetted and will act with professionalism and integrity.
Under Florida law, massage therapists occupy positions of trust, and any sexual contact with a client is strictly prohibited. A therapist may not use their professional relationship to induce or attempt to induce a client to engage in sexual activity outside the accepted scope of practice or standards of treatment.
It is unlawful, unethical, and a violation of professional duty for any therapist to touch a client sexually. Because massage therapy takes place in private settings where clients are particularly vulnerable, practitioners are expected to exercise sound judgment and uphold the highest standards of moral character.
In the administrative complaint against Marco Colmenares, the Florida Department of Health alleges that he willfully abused his position as a licensed massage therapist by engaging in sexual misconduct with a client who trusted him to act professionally. Such conduct constitutes a grave breach of the therapist-client relationship and violates the ethical and statutory duties governing the practice of massage therapy. A violation of these professional standards demonstrates a lack of the moral character and judgment required to safely practice. Should the allegations be substantiated, appropriate disciplinary action may include suspension or revocation of Colmenares’s license to practice massage therapy in the State of Florida.
