Don Bosco Technical High School was formed and run by the Salesians of Don Bosco religious order for decades before the school closed in 2002. The school was eventually demolished and a new public middle school built in its place.
At least three Salesian priests who worked at Don Bosco Tech have been accused of sexually abusing minors during their careers. Fr. Ernest Faggioni, Fr. August Kita, and Fr. Sean Leo Rooney have all been publicly identified as serial child abusers.
In February of 2016, the Paterson School District removed a newly hired teacher after learning he was being investigated for sexual abuse allegations in New York. Jinwoo Seong was hired at Don Bosco Technical Academy after a nine-month long investigation by special school investigators in New York. The investigation found that Seong exposed himself to a male student repeatedly, touched multiple female students inappropriately, and also had some male students touch him sexually as well. Seong denied all of the allegations. He was hired by the Paterson School District before the investigation was concluded, exploiting the length of time the investigation took before a conclusion could be reached.
