Father James Cairnan Haggerty entered the Franciscan Order in 1955. He served in multiple educational roles including teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal and guardian of the community. He was the former principal of Archbishop Walsh High School, and the director of youth retreats at Christ House in Lafayette, N.J.
According to media reports, in April 2019, Father James Haggerty was named publicly on a list of priests accused of sexual abuse. Father Haggerty was among more than 20 accused priests whose names were never previously released by the Diocese of Buffalo even though allegations against him were reviewed the previous June by the Diocesan Review Board. Father Haggerty died in 1991 at the age of 66.
