On September 18, 2024, massage therapist Rigoberto Cadavieco-Landiero of Miami, Florida, was arrested after allegations were made by a female client that she was sexually assaulted by Cadavieco while he was working at Massage Envy located at 9014 SW 107th Avenue, in East Kendall. Cadavieco, age 57, has been a licensed massage therapist in Florida since 2015. Cadavieco is facing one count of sexual battery on a victim 18 or older.
According to media reports, the arrest affidavit from the Miami-Dade Police Department shows that the incident occurred on May 4, 2024, at the East Kendall Massage Envy. The report states that a female client received a massage from Cadavieco, and fell asleep during the massage. The 45-year old client claims she woke up to Cadavieco "digitally penetrating her vagina" against her will. According to detectives, Cadavieco denied the victim's allegation, but authorities collected Cadavieco's DNA for evidence by Miami-Dade police investigators. Cadavieco was held on a $10,000 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. The case is pending further investigation.
Clients of massage therapists are placed in isolated, vulnerable settings where they can be subject to abuse by their massage therapists. Due to the potential for abuse that is inherent under these circumstances, massage therapists must possess good judgment and good moral character in order to practice massage therapy safely. Cadavieco willfully abused his position as a massage therapist to sexually violate a patient. Cadavieco abused his power and lacked good moral judgment to practice massage safely on female clients.
