Preschool Teacher Trevor Hruby Convicted of Sexually Abusing Toddlers in Gainesville

UPDATE:   On December 6, 2022, Trevor Hruby was convicted and sentenced to 120 years in prison on four counts of producing child pornography.  Prosecutors victimized and photographed numerous children under his supervision while he was working at the daycare. Two of the victims were just 3 years old according to police.

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) released information regarding a previously arrested preschool teacher, Trevor Hruby. GPD believes that Trevor Hruby, age 23, could have more victims in the Gainesville community after seeing an online advertisement by Hruby offering babysitting services. They are expressing their concerns because, in September 2021, Trevor Hruby was arrested for sexually battering two children while working at A Child's Dream Preschool in Gainesville, Florida. Hruby was held in the Levy County Jail, then moved to Alachua County.

Hruby's arrest in 2021 took place after a concerned parent asked to see video footage from the classroom involving her 3-year-old. According to media reports, the parent asked her child how her day was, and the toddler replied that her newly assigned teacher stuck his finger in her vagina during naptime. The video footage showed Hruby approaching the victim during naptime and moving the victim (in her cot) behind a bookshelf, out of the camera's view. The video showed Hruby sitting beside the victim and moving his left arm near her body. A few minutes later, the victim went to the bathroom; a parent and the school director entered the room while the child was in the bathroom, and Hruby got up and moved around the classroom until the child came out of the bathroom. She appeared to try to avoid Hruby by taking a longer route back to her cot. Hruby then approached her again and knelt next to her for several minutes before getting up and walking away.

The Child Advocacy Center then conducted a forensic interview. Hruby was arrested for sexual battery of a child under the age of 12. According to Hruby's arrest report, Hruby admitted to massaging the child's back and bare bottom under her clothing "to help her sleep." He also admitted to inserting his fingers into her vagina to check for "moisture" and "other fluids" after observing a stain on her pants. During the interview, he also admitted to sexually battering another 3-year-old female in the same classroom. A review of video footage also confirmed that incident. Hruby admitted to being aware of the camera's " blind spots " due to being accused of molesting another child at a different daycare a year prior.

Gainesville Police are instructing anyone that may know Trevor Hruby or that has come in contact with him with your child, to contact them immediately. Parents often rely on child daycare instructors for the safety, development, and growth of their children. The daycare employees provide a critical role and take on the role of substitute parents during the school week. It is not unusual for daycare instructors to spend more time with a child than a child's actual parents.
