Miami Chess Teacher Christopher Stormont Arrested for Sexual Misconduct; More Victims Come Forward
Christopher Stormont

On June 30, 2025, Christopher Stormont, a Miami-Dade chess instructor, was arrested for alleged sexual misconduct with a 6-year-old boy in Kendall. Stormont, age 50, faces a charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12. Stormont has been teaching chess to children for since 1991. He is the owner of The Stormont Kings chess program located at 8353 SW 124th St. in Miami, Florida. The chess program program is affiliated with the United States Chess Federation.

According to media reports, a 6-year-old boy attended Stormont's chess class, and after leaving his class, he told his mother that Stormont touched his genitals. The arrest report states,

“Upon exiting the class, the victim immediately disclosed to his mother that (Stormont) touched his penis over the clothing.”

Stormont was arrested at the scene and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. During his initial court appearance, Stormont's attorney sought to be released on house arrest because he requires multiple medications for medical issues related to Agent Orange due to his father's exposure to the herbicide in the Vietnam War around the time when he was conceived. Stormont has pleaded not guilty to the lewd and lascivious molestation charges.

Following the announcement of criminal charges against Stormont, additional victims have come forward to report abuse to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. No announcement on additional criminal charges has been made yet. To date, no civil lawsuits have been filed.

Schools are educational institutions where children can learn and develop skills in a nurturing environment. It is expected that they are safe from violence, bullying, harassment, and sexual abuse. Teachers and coaches are entrusted with facilitating learning and supporting the educational needs of their students. Someone who sexually violates young children has no place working in the school system. Any school where such a crime is committed should take responsibility if it fails to properly screen potential teachers and protect its students.
