On May 20, 2025, Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested Deriko Montreze Hill after allegedly battering a woman in her HarborChase Senior Living apartment in the Dr. Phillips area last month. Deriko Hill, 26, is facing charges of burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, attempted sexual battery, and battery on a person 65 years of age or older. He was denied bond and remains in Orange County jail.
According to media reports, the initial incident occurred on April 29, between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., when an intruder gained access to the senior living facility operated by Harbor Retirement Associates. A resident was screaming and told security she had been attacked. Authorities came to investigate, but were unable to identify the perpetrator. There was a 5K reward out to identify the person who attacked the elderly woman in her assisted living apartment. Video surveillance shows a black male on the property, entering the victim's room. The video shows the victim laying in her bed on her side when a black man comes up behind her, lifts her night gown and rubs his erect penis on her buttocks. Another video from another angle shows the male thrusting against the victim's bare body.
On May 20, Orange County deputies received a call about a suspicious person on property at the Brookdale Senior Living facility on Pin Oak Drive. Authorities said the person found there matched the description of the suspect in the April 29 attack on a 90-year-old woman at HarborChase on Della Drive. Hill was arrested and transported to the Orange County Jail. While questioning Hill, deputies asked what happened at the HarborChase Senior Living Center, as well as why he was on the property that evening at Brookdale. According to his arrest affidavit, he admitted that he entered the victim's room on April 29 and tried to "make love to her, but starting with kissing and hugging." He stated he "tried to pull down her panties, but she screamed, kicked, and punched" him. Deriko Hill noted that he entered the facility at Brookdale to "find an old woman to make love to." He later confirmed that "making love" meant penetrating another person's body with his penis. Hill also confirmed that there was another incident involving a woman at Brookdale, and he admitted to entering the property without authorization.
"No senior should ever be attacked in their home or apartment," the Orlando Police Department said. "Detectives from both our agencies have worked vigilantly to find this suspect and ensure that he can’t hurt any other seniors in our community."
HarborChase of Dr. Phillips is a well-known senior living community operated by Harbor Retirement Associates. The facility houses older adults, many of whom may have heightened health and safety vulnerabilities. The attack has sparked concern in the community about safety in such environments. While HarborChase and Brookdale have solid reputations, these incidents highlight security gaps that can lead to serious consequences. Residents deserve to be protected and secure while on property, and both senior living facilities failed to do so.
