On October 15, 2025, a renowned New York surgeon Dr. Maurizio Miglietta, was indicted on multiple felony charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint in his NYC apartment.
According to media reports, Miglietta, 56, who has served as a professor of surgery at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and an honorary police surgeon for the NYPD, faces charges including rape, attempted rape, and criminal sexual act.
Allegations
Prosecutors allege that on June 5, 2024, Dr. Miglietta invited a 28-year-old woman to his apartment under the pretense of discussing professional opportunities. Once there, he allegedly kissed her without consent and, when she resisted, he flashed a loaded firearm.
According to the indictment, Dr. Miglietta placed the gun on a coffee table next to the woman’s head and sexually assaulted her orally, attempting to rape her while she repeatedly said “no.” The victim reportedly managed to leave by claiming she had a pressing appointment.
Authorities say the assault occurred in the context of a professional relationship and under the guise of mentorship — a dynamic that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg called “an egregious abuse of power and trust.”
“As alleged, this prominent doctor used his position to lure a woman to his apartment under the guise of professional networking and mentorship. Instead, he allegedly displayed a firearm and sexually assaulted her as she repeatedly said no,” Bragg said in a statement.
Dr. Miglietta’s Background
Dr. Maurizio Miglietta is a well-known trauma surgeon and medical educator who has worked at several major hospitals and academic institutions in New York. He has also served as a consultant to federal law enforcement and the U.S. Secret Service. Despite his respected reputation in medicine, prosecutors emphasize that his professional status does not exempt him from accountability under the law. Dr. Miglietta has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently out on bond pending further court proceedings.
